Who Could Buy Twitter?
By Mark Evans | November 7, 2008
With three million unique visitors in the U.S. - and growing - Twitter has established itself as the micro-bloggin platform.
And while it has yet to come up with a business model, there is growing speculation about Twitter being acquired. So, who could/would buy Twitter?
Perhaps Facebook. At the Web 2.0 Summit yesterday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was asked if his company would be interested in buying Twitter, he joked that Facebook could look at doing a deal - leaving people wondering if he’s just joking or showing his strategic cards.
Another possibility - suggested by Toronto entrepreneur Jevon MacDonald - is Twitter could be acquired by Cisco. Cisco? The thesis is Cisco could push Twitter into the enterprise market given it is the leading enterprise telecom equipment maker. As well, Cisco has been aggressively moving into the consumer market, and given Twitter’s growing appeal, it’s not a bad way to gain a strong foothold and a lot of attention.
So, who do you think will buy Twitter?
