Twitter Revenue Just a Matter of Time

You won’t have to wait much longer to see how Twitter is going to generate revenue.

Twitter CEO Evan Williams told Bloomberg he doesn’t want to raise any venture capital in 2009 because he doesn’t think the company will as good a valuation.

So with that concern front and centre, Williams suggests Twitter may charge companies to access its user base. This could involve fees if companies wanted to send coupons or promotions to Twitter users that want to receive these kind of offers. I’m not sure how well this kind of activity will resonate with Twitter users but at least Twitter is exploring revenue ideas.

As well, Twitter could charge companies that want to display ads on Twitter’s search engine – something that makes complete sense given Google has made this practice completely acceptable.

Every site deserves to make money. I love twitter and I hope they are around for a while and if that means charging for something then so be it.

The question is how much would you be willing to pay?
