A recurring theme on this blog is how the ecosystem is doing such an amazing job filling in gaps that Twitter can’t or won’t do themselves.
Another great example is Power Twitter (hat tip to Brian Solis for highlighting it), which is a Firefox plug-in that gives Twitter some additional bells and whistles.
This includes search that works within your Twitter account rather than taking you to another Web site (search.twitter.com). You can also quickly look at all of the replies (aka @yourname) you’ve received, and check the Facebook status of people you follow.
These are the kind of features Twitter should seriously thinking of adding, although the purists out there would argue it would take away from Twitter’s clean and no-frills interface.
On Brian’s blog and on Power Twitter’s Firefox Add-Ons page, there are some concerns about Power Twitter freezing or slowing down Firefox but it’s not something I have experienced yet.

After the past week on Twitter, I'd be weary of any new services for now. I'd be curious to know how uptake of new Twitter tools has slowed as of late.
