A discussion getting a lot of traction within the Twittersphere is who should you follow. Part of that equation is figuring out what criteria to use.
Do you simply follow popular people in your industry or area of interest? Do you use some of the directory or recommendation engines to find people to follow? Or are there other approaches?
One of the most intriguing is “influence”, and the value that Twitter users provide in terms of offering links to interesting stories or Web sites, how often they re-Tweet, and how many responses they generate.
With that in mind, Web Analytics Demystified has rolled out a new tool that measures your influence on Twitter. Here’s the pitch:
“While some measures of influence in Twitter are little more than popularity contests, Web Analytics Demystified believes that influence is a function of your reach, noteriety, and the likelihood that you will repeat the ideas of others and have your own ideas repeated (“retweeted”).”
After some Twitter-crunching, the tool spits out a series of ratings for each criteria so you can see how you or other people rank in terms of influence. All in all, it’s a very interesting approach to getting a handle on how you’re doing on Twitter, and how you should look at other people.

I found http://www.twitter-friends.comquite interesting in its approach of looking at how people are connecting on Twitter and using it to network
Mark, I went to test this and here is what I got:
http://www.webanalyticsdemystified.com/twitter/in…
Many people, including @rhh have told me they don't see my replies, or posts that I tag (i.e. #Mesh09). I actually searched @agoracom on Twitter search and didn't find one post from me.
Twitter influence picked it up and thinks I'm either protecting my tweets (which I am not) or blocked.
This is a major problem….can you help? Do you have any contact a Twitter. I've tried sending tweets to support but no response.
Frustrating.
Martin,
Thanks for the suggestion. I check it out, and blogged about it.
cheers, Mark
