Over the past few days, I’ve been using a Twitter desktop client using Adobe Air called TwitterLocal, which lets you see the posts of people who live around a specific location.
For example, if you just wanted to see what people living in Toronto were talking about, you would search for Toronto, and, if needed, provide a distance around Toronto to include.
This is a really nice feature because it offers a view of what people are saying in a particular location. However, TwitterLocal comes across as more of a feature than an application.
The biggest flaw is there’s no other search/filter tools. Let’s say, for example, you wanted to find people in and around Detroit using Twitter to talk about automobiles, or people in Silicon Valley talking about technology. With TwitterLocal, there’s no way to do it.
Another weakness with TwitterLocal is you can’t replay, direct message, retweet or follow people that you discover. Instead, you click on someone’s username, and then get taken to Twitter.com. Then, you can follow, DM, retweet and follow.
TwitterLocal was created by Matt King. He’s got the nugget of a good idea but needs to integrate some basic Twitter functionality and enhanced search if he wants TwitterLocal to be anything more than a quasi-uesful novelty.

I checked out TwitterLocal and I agree with you.
