Guess What? Twitter’s Popular

Compete.com has a gushy blog post about Twitter’s traffic is exploding, hitting 10 million unique visitors worldwide in February (700% year-over-year growth).

Well, Twitter’s growth comes as no surprise, what’s interesting is who’s using Twitter. The most enthusiastic users are 45-to-54-year-olds, followed closely by the 25 to 34-year-old demographic.

So how do you explain why an older demographic is so enthusiastic about Twitter? You would think that younger people would be all over Twitter given their love of SMS and Facebook updates.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact Twitter has resonated with bloggers, who see Twitter as an easier and quicker way to communicate their ideas. Maybe Twitter is too geeky right now for the young’uns.?

Any thoughts?

Not too surprising now that everyone from major media outlets, Congressmen and "the famous" are bragging about being on Twitter.
