Bing Launches Twitter Search Engine

Bing, flush with a strong launch in the search market, has come out with a Twitter search engine.

First impression: I don’t like it because it’s not solely a Twitter search engine but a combo-search engine that produces results for the Web and Twitter.

Rather than Twitter search results being front and centre, they appear on a left-hand sidebar that constantly scrolls, which is distracting.

If Bing wants to get into Twitter, it should get into Twitter rather than trying to do the Web and Twitter.

Indeed, the interface needs a bit of work, but it does make Tweets more accessible to the general public. Keep in mind there are a lot of folks who are not using Twitter, yet they are often searching for information that might actually be on Twitter. Like most new products, this one needs refinement, but I think with all the hype around Bing, this should boost awareness of Twitter and possible social networking overall.
