The Evolution of Tweetdeck

If you’re an enthusiastic Twitter user – and who isn’t these days! – then there’s a good chance that you’re using Tweetdeck to read and post updates. Created by Iain Dodsworth, Tweetdeck has become the world’s leading publishing tool with about 20% market share.

Armed with $2-million in recently raised venture capital, Tweetdeck is starting to flex its muscle by rolling out a series of updates (it’s AIR-based desktop software) recently that have added a number of useful and valuable features.

This includes the ability to post updates to multiple accounts as well as Facebook, a new column featuring recommendations, and a sync feature to access your account on different devices or computers.

While there’s no lack of competition – Seesmic Desktop, Tweetie, Twitter.com, et al – Tweetdeck’s user-friendly features (multiple columns to monitor keywords and do search) and a willingness to unveil new features is helping keep it a step ahead the pack.

If Tweetdeck could add one more feature, it would be great to be able to also view multiple Twitter accounts – something that Seesmic currently offers.

More: Here’s an interview with Dodsworth done last year by Refreshing Apps.Social Media Today’s Ed Richardson also has a good post looking at Tweetdeck’s new features.

As far as I can tell, you can update to multiple accounts but you can't see more than one live stream. If that's not the case, let me know. cheers, Mark
