According to eMarketer, the leading reason why people in the U.S. use Twitter is to keep in touch with friends (41.6%), followed by updating your status (29.1%), Find news/stay updated (25.8%) and work-related (21.7%).
eMarketer also found that women rely more on Twitter to keep in touch with friends than men (48.4% vs. 33.6%, while men used Twitter as a way to find news and stayed updated more than women (30.7% vs. 21.9%).
