A quick look at Twitter.com’s traffic in July shows pretty much flat growth from July – the second flat month-over-month period this year. (See the Compete.com chart below)
I’m not sure whether this is:
1. An indication that Twitter’s growth has, in fact, plateaued despite the hype.
2. It’s summer, and people have better things to do (go outside, sit on a patio, take a vacation, etc.) than post updates of 140 characters or less.
3. Twitter.com is losing its appeal because it still lacks bells and whistles despite a recent makeover.
My sense is it’s probably a combination of all three. That said, Twittercism does point out that traffic for Facebook was flat in July as well.
