The word “tweet” has become a part of the digiterati’s vernacular as Twitter is used by more people.
So, it was somewhat surprising to see Twitter revealed that it had applied for a trademark on “tweet” because “it is clearly attached to Twitter from a brand perspective”.
The good news for all you “tweet” lovers out there that the US Patent and Trademark office has rejected Twitters’ application. You can get all the juicy details from Sam Johnston’s blog post.
On a related note, I found it interesting recently that Twitter doesn’t let you create a new user name using the word “Twitter” in it. I was trying to create an account for Twitterrati to use to check out new service but that was a no-go.
More: By the way, if Twitter is really serious about “tweet”, maybe it should use some of it venture capital cash to buy the domain tweet.com, which is now a site dedicated to birds.
