Finally, A Twitter “Store”

One of the many mysteries of Twitter is why it has made its API available to developers but not created a central location for people to find all the applications and services that have been developed. A good model is Wordpress, which has a great plug-in directory where people can find thousands of applications for their blogs.

While there have been some external attempts at creating a Twitter directory, there’s a new player, oneforty, that looks particularly interesting. It’s still aninvitation-only beta so I haven’t been able to gain access to it yet but some coverage TechCrunch suggests it may have many of the things enthusiastic Twitter users need and want.

oneforty, created by Laura Fitton, features 1,332 free and paid applications that Twitter users can rate and, when applicable, buy. According to TechCrunch, oneforty also features lists of the most popular services, and the best applications for different types of activities.

oneforty’s business model is based on it getting a cut from any Twitter applications sold. It is also going to offer Twitter-related books and merchandise.
