In what has been described as a “major” launch, Twitter has pulled back the covers on a new feature that lets people organize the people they follow into lists – something that Tweetdeck and Seesmic have been offering for months.
In a blog post, Twitter’s Nick Kallen said the ” idea is to allow people to curate lists of Twitter accounts. For example, you could create a list of the funniest Twitter accounts of all time, athletes, local businesses, friends, or any compilation that makes sense.”
The launch of lists, which will only be available to a small group of people for now, will, no doubt, receive a lot of attention but it also reflects how Twitter has lagged the ecosystem in providing people with user-friendly ways to use the popular service.
This goes a long way in explaining why Twitter.com only attracts less than 50% of overall Twitter users, who have increasingly migrated to platforms such as Tweetdeck, Seesmic and HooteSuite.
