Twitter Getting Into R&D

While Twitter is increasingly popular, it is not known for being pushing the envelope when it comes to innovative new services. Instead, Twitter has let the developer community use its API to create new and interesting services – some of them valuable and useful, and some just entertaining.

But it appears that Twitter may be getting involved in developing new products with the launch soon of Twitter Labs. According to Britt Selvitelle, TWitter’s user experience and front end engineering lead, the company could get directly involved in creating new services – putting in competition with external developers.

Selvitelle talked about Twitter Labs at the Future of Web Apps conference London today. CNet reported that he did not provide any details about what Twitter Labs would be doing.
