Over the past year, bit.ly has become one of the leading URL-shorteners – a competitive market in which the business models are still being worked on.
For Twitter users, bit.ly is a particularly useful way to quickly and easily post updates related to Web sites, news articles and blog posts that you want to share. After registering for bit.ly, one of the tools available is a bookmarklet that can be installed on your browser’s toolbar.
Every time you want to share a Web site, news article or blog post, you click on the bookmarklet and a bit.ly box appears where you can write a Twitter and post an update to Twitter. It’s a tool that I use on a regular basis because it lets you can stay in your Web browser rather than having to post on Twitter.com or a third-party publishing tool such as Tweetdeck.
For registered users, bit.ly also provides information on how many times your linked was clicked on to provide insight in whether what you shared was interesting to other people.
Here’s what the box looks like:

I love bit.ly! It's the best shorten-er site around. I don't even consider using owl.ly or another url developer site.
