Obama: Not a Member of the Twitteratti

News flash: U.S. President Barack Obama has never used Twitter.

All you people who thought he was furiously tapping out update on @barackobama has been tricked. At a town hall event in Shanghai, Obama said:

“I have never used Twitter but I’m an advocate of technology and not restricting internet access.” (Quote from TechCrunch).

To be honest, it shouldn’t be that surprising that Obama has never been on Twitter. When you’re running a campaign for the most powerful position in the world, spending time on Twitter is likely something low on your list of priorities.

Does Obama’s absence from Twitter hurt his social media street cred?

Another thought is how many other high-profile personalities with Twitter accounts have never actually been on Twitter.

For example, perhaps Oprah never really been on Twitter, although you could argue she’s definitely not into Twitter given she has only made 87 updates since her celebrated foray earlier this year.
