Has Follow Friday Lost its Mojo?

Follow Friday (aka #followfriday or #ff) is a way for Twitter users to publicly recognize, thank and put the spotlight on other members of the Twitter community.

Now it just may be me and the people that I follow but Follow Friday doesn’t seem as vibrant or active as it was just a few months ago. For whatever reason, I’m seeing far less #followfriday or #ff. Maybe the novelty has worn off, maybe people are just so anxious to finish off the week that Follow Friday is taking a back seat to everything else, or maybe people have simply moved on.

What’s your take? Do you think Follow Friday is done like dinner?

Note: For anyone looking for Follow Friday inspiration, check out The Twitter Tag Project Follow Friday, which generates #followfriday lists based automatically based on your user name. Another tool is Top Follow Friday, which lets you see who includes you within #followfriday or #ff salutations, as well as people that you highlight.

As I wrote on Twitter today: "I'm not doing #FF anymore because there are too many good people to fit into just 140 char.! I raise my coffee cup in salute to all of you." @Colo_kea

If stats are correct about 10 per cent of people doing 90 per cent of the tweets, then one would assume that at some point the law of diminishing returns, saturation, and as you point out, the short half-life of online novelty leaving no one left to follow.

Thanks for this. I feel overwhelmed w/Twitter on Fridays :} With love, yes! and that is awesome…but I find it daunting to a) thank everyone who generously mentions/recommends me and b) to also squeeze in sooo very many follow friday recommendations that I'd like to make! I don't have masses of followers/friends compared to others, but I've made many connections w/MANY suuper people and it would take all day to mention those who inspire me, make me smile, laugh and at times, good lord! even think! ;-) What are your suggestions?
