A Multi-Coloured Approach to Twitter

When it comes to using Twitter online, there's plenty of interest from people looking to create a better mousetrap than Twitter.com.

Part of the challenge is providing the features and functionality that work elegantly within the Web experience. At the same time, online services also have to compete against desktop tools such as Tweetdeck and Seesmic. Among all players competing against Twitter.com, Hootsuite is probably the most compelling alternative.

A new entrant is Twimbow, which has taken a colourful approach to using Twitter on the Web. Like many online services, Twimbow features multiple columns.

Twimbow is attempting to stand out from the crowd by using a rainbow of colours to provide users with quick visual insight into your "Personal Buzz". Olive, for example, is used to show your tweets that have been retweeted, while green shows @ tweets.

Another column called "Home Buzz" shows your live stream, while the third column can be used to do searches.

Twimbow's use of colours is different, and the personal buzz column is useful. Twimbow would be enhanced if it was possible to create more than three columns.

Bottom line: Twimbow is interesting but people using Hootsuite or Monitter are unlikely to switch.
