There are lots of alternative to Twitter’s search engine, but one worth checking out is SnapBird.
Aside from being easy to use, SnapBird offers a variety of useful search features. These includes being able to search for another Twitter user’s tweets and their favorites, and searching for public tweets that are older than 10 days older (something that Twitter doesn’t offer).
It is also possible to search for your own public and private tweets, although you must log in to do so.
Bottom line: SnapBird could easily be added to your Twitter toolbox.

One of the key features of Snapbird and perhaps any third-party, Twitter API based search service has to be the archiving/indexing beyond N days. The accuracy of searches grows enormously as the archive deepens, provided one is after more than viewing real-time activity. Along these lines, we're displaying a searchable stream of all the questions people are asking on Twitter, and we're finding that keeping Tweets in the index ideally forever, at least those with @replies, makes searches of the question-stream (http://replyz.com/c) much more accurate and valuable, and this only increases with time.
