TweetBeat is Sweet

I take a look at dozens of Twitter services every week but, to be honest, there aren’t many that resonate enough to compel me to use them on a regular basis.

So, it was a pleasant surprise to come across TweetBeat firsthand, a plug-in for Firefox and Chrome that shows the tweets of people or companies mentioned on Web pages.

Created by Kosmix, TweetBeat firsthand is one of those services that offer an amazing amount of utility in a small package. It provides value on a real-time basis without being overly intrusive or distracting.

After installing the plug-in/extension, the Web pages that you visit will display a small Twitter icon beside a company or individual’s name. When you hover over the icon, it displays a small pop-up window that features the user’s most recent tweets.

This provides a snapshot of what a company or person has been tweeting about recently without having to leave the page for another online service.

In an ideal world, TweetBeat would also have options to follow someone or reply to a tweet but, for now, it has enough value and functionality to easily warrant being installed.

Bottom line: A solid addition for anyone who uses Twitter
Rating: 9/10

I installed this last week. The only problem I have with it is when I use Google Reader, it adds an additional line for each subscription with a Twitter account.
