Over the past few days, I’ve been using Twitter.com to post updates from someone else’s computer.
Every time, I used Twiter.com, the first thing that pops into my head is “Why would anyone ever use Twitter.com”? While there are a few useful features such as trending topic and the ability to find people/companies, Twitter.com is a no-frills service; it’s vanilla ice cream in a Baskin-Robbins world.
Yet millions of people continue to use Twitter.com even though there are a wide variety of alternatives – both online and desktop. Perhaps the beauty of Twitter.com is its simplicity, which differentiates it from everything else. But even people that want to use a streamlined service eventually pine for some frills.
If you are a Twitter.com user, here are some of the leading options to consider:
Online: Brizzly, Hootsuite, CoTweet, Pluggio
Desktop: Tweetdeck, Seesmic, MarketMeTweet, Mixero, Tweetie
If you’re a Twitter.com, why do you continue to use it?

I prefer to use Twitter.com because I can access the same view no matter where I am. Whether on my iPad or my friend's laptop, it’s always easy to use. And in addition, I do like to see my branding (and others) on the Twitter page. Makes it a little bit more unique.
I only use Twitter.com when I'm in a rush and don't feel like bringing up Tweetdeck. Also, Twitter.com is better for me if I'm tired, because there's no way I can accidentally tweet from the wrong account. Otherwise, I agree — I would never use it every day, all day long. I have become rather dependent on Tweetdeck for mentions, searches, direct messages, and so forth, for the two accounts I manage.
I've been using the Twitter interface b/c I've just not taken the time to look at different Web-based options. BTW … After this question from you, I went and read some reviews and am now starting with HootSuite. Thanks for the push! :0)
I use a couple of the other options you mentioned, but I like reading on twitter.com.
I use Hootsuite mostly, but somtimes it gets over the API call limit, then the fastest way is Twitter.com. I also find it one of the fastest ways to reach the tweets saved to Favorites.
