What’s Your Social Street Cred?

After posting yesterday about RetweetRank, someone suggested I take a look at PeerIndex, a start-up that is mapping the social Web and giving everyone an authority ranking using an algoritm that takes into account the information we share, and how this information is shared (retweeted, commented on) by people who are authorities on that topic.

PeerIndex crunches this information to come up with an authority ranking. Some of the things that enhance your authority ranking is how quickly and how often you share information, how fresh or unique it is, and whether you engage with other influencers.

While PeerIndex doesn’t disclose much about its business model, the data it is collecting about key influencers and opinion leaders within the social Web would be a valuable resource to companies looking to reach out to them and communities interested in their products and services.

The company is currently tracking 1.87 million people, and exploring Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and blogs.

    Thanks for this review. We are very early in the development of our business –and truly overwhelmed by the great support we've got from the community.

    To help understand what we want to build and our view of the world–I want to outline our take on it–that take is that lots of people are building professional and social capital online. And they are doing so by participating, contributing, authority and sharing. Our starting point is that much of these capital is uncounted or misattributed–and we want to find a way of establishing a relevant balance sheet that help people' understand what they have built for themselves.

    From that standpoint we might be able to foster or somehow encourage even better behaviours than we are already seeing–and encourage more knowledge exchange, contribution and collaboration.

    As to the business model–again it's early days, we have some ideas and welcome more ;)
