Why Tweetdeck Rules the Rule

When it comes to tools for using Twitter, I’ve pretty used them all in search of the Holy Tweeting Grail. At the end the day, however, I always come to back to TweetDeck. It’s the service that I use to benchmark potential alternatives. And while there are some viable contenders such as Seesmic, HootSuite and MarketMeTweet, Tweetdeck has maintained its status as my go-to tool. Here’s why:

1. The ability to create multiple columns make it easy to track your live stream, replies, DMs, favorites, lists, and any other keywords that are important for professional or personal reasons.

2. The auto-URL shortener is sweet and convenient, which makes it puzzling why other tools and services still require users shorten URLs by clicking on a “shorten” button.

3. Being able to post to multiple social media services – Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace and Google Buzz – makes Tweetdeck a one-stop shop, which makes life easy for anyone with a widespread digital presence.

4. The ability to quickly see someone’s profile and tweets lets you get a quick handle on them and whether they are worth following.

5. Post-dating tweets and updates makes it a snap to have a steady social media presence throughout the day rather than having to cram updates within a short period of time.

6. Tweetdeck’s iPhone app is free and has many of the same features as the desktop app.

7. Twitter Lists can be quickly created and populated with people that you already follow.

8. Search is solid and effective, making it unnecessary to use other search services.

9. The UI can be personalized through the user of different colours and fonts.

More: If Tweetdeck could add any more features, it would be a way to easily switch between accounts. As well, access to statistics would be valuable and useful. For a take on why HootSuite is the superior tools, check out SocialMouths’ blog post.

I guess the main reason for me to go with CoTweet or Hootsuite over Tweetdeck is that is not web-based, it's also that preferences have to do a lot with getting used to one particular tool and feeling comfortable even if the next one is a lot more powerful. I'll operate from Tweetdeck today and see if I can experience some the features you listed.

Thanks for the mention/link! Have a great day.
