For people who are enthusiastic Twitter users, our tweets happen when they happen with no rhyme or reason. Some people may schedule a tweet using a tool within TweetDeck or HootSuite but I suspect this isn’t a large group.
If you are into scheduling tweets, an important consideration is doing it at times when your tweets can get the most exposure. There may be times when more of your followers are using Twitter so why not try to publish tweets during these periods.
There are lots of scheduling services but one worth checking out is Time.ly, which is an off-shot of FlowTown. To see if your tweets are getting the most bang the buck, you start by providing your Twitter username. Here’s what Timely said about my tweets:
So how does Timely work? It analyzes your last 199 tweets to figure out the best time slots. It then uses this information to auto-schedule tweets and learn about your tweeting activity as your followers grow.
Timely also offers a premium version of its service for $19.99/month of $199/year. The premium version includes the ability to export analytics, post to Facebook and LinkedIn, content suggestions by category, unlimited RSS/Atom feed, real-time notifications and e-mail tweets.
Bottom line: Timely looks interesting but I’d like to see more information about how the scheduling technology works. For example, the only information provided about my tweets was they would be scheduled in 30 minutes. Timely could also do with some information about itself, how the service works and an FAQ. I’d also like to see it possible to configure Timely to post tweets on multiple accounts at the same time.
